Annotation online sources

Generally the annotation guidelines laid down by the Koninklijk Nederlands Historisch Genootschap (KNHG) or the Royal Dutch Historical Society, are followed by Dutch historical manuscripts.

The following must be mentioned in a correct, Dutch historical bibliography: the name of the author, the title of the work, the place and year of publication and the number of pages. In the case the work is an archival piece, the place of discovery must also be included. If the place of publication is unknown, a 'z.p.' (zonder plaats, or: without place) must be mentioned. The same holds true for the year of publication; in that case there has to be a 'z.j.' (zonder jaar, or: without year) noted down. The first time that a publication is referred to in a work, its full title must always be given. If a title is already mentioned, a short or condensed version of the surname, main words in the title, and the pagenumber(s) can suffice. The title of a book or magazine must always be typed in cursive or be underlined. The author's first name is shown in full, or in the case that it has been shown previously, only by way of its first letter. Page numbers always follow directly after the title, without a 'p.' or comma.

Bij verwijzingen naar een niet gedrukte bron allereerst de aard en datum van het stuk, dan van algemeen naar specifiek (Brief van X aan Y, datum, archiefbewaarplaats, archieffonds, inventarisnummer en eventueel folionummer:

John Adams aan Benjamin Waterhouse, 19 maart 1817, Massachusetts Historical Society, Boston, MA. Adams Papers, #436.

In een Nederlandstalige literatuurlijst worden de hierboven genoemde conventies gehanteerd, zij het dat van de eerste auteur de achternaam eerst wordt genoemd en alleen de paginanummers worden gegeven van het gehele artikelen of de bijdrage in een bundel.
