Writing a Paper

Annotation: MLA

American academics follow the guidelines as are laid down by the Modern Language Association (MLA). Please see: Joseph Gibaldi en Phyllis Franklin, MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (5th ed) or the: Guide for Writing Research Papers by Capital Community College, available online. In the social sciences it is normal to show a reference by stating the author's name and the year between brackets within the text, as the guidelines by the American Psychological Association (APA) lay down. Furthermore, some historical areas, such as Ancient History, use this type of annotation.

The guide for Writing Research Papers also demonstrates guidelines depicting how to annotate online resources.
